I am dying to visit Ireland?

I hope I get to go this summer. I can't wait!

My question is-

What is a nice small gift I can get for an Irish lady in her early 60s. I am going to meet my friend's family for the first time. I want to get something small for his mom.

I asked my friend what he thought his mom might like, but he refused to tell me as he did not want me to spend money.

  1. This is always a difficult one because each person is different and so are there tastes and since your friend is being a stubborn pig(all Irish men are, believe me on this one (",) ), hopefully you'll be able to choose the right one. Something original to your area would be nice, or something that represents your area(im only using this as an example, but say Jack Daniels would be a reminder of Tennesse, if you catch what im on about. Failing that, most older irish ladies like ornaments for the house(knick knack shops make a fortune over here). Or failing that, jewellery

  2. Right, well theres a few things.

Waterford Crystal is one thing you can buy, shed love some of that ,i.e decanters, vases, jugs etc.

Bottle of Jameson never goes astray.

Piece of Claddagh Jewlery is really Irish and is'nt too expensive.

Irish Traditonal Music if she likes music, there a shop in Dublin City across the road to Trinity College called Celtic Note that does all that type of stuff

Actually down the road from that theres a coat of arms shop, where they have plaques with her Irish name and coat of arms (family name symbol) that'd be pretty good.

And here, if she is Irish avoid the tacky touristy shops for a gift. No Irish person wants a present from an Irish tourist shop!

Hope this helps and enjoy your stay!

  3. a small piece of jewellery
