I am dyslexic, and I had to learn 4 "5 minute" presentations in Russian....?

I have been studying it for a year, they had to be about current affairs, and I have a real problem even learning a 2 minute presentation off by heart. When I did the exam (without any notes after 2 months of preperation), I froze, and couldn't carry on. Isn't this amount of work unfair for somebody with a learning disorder, especially after only one year of the language?

  1. I can't tell if you are in high school or college, but was wondering if you have an IEP. If you have an IEP, it would list any modifications to coursework that you should have: for example, longer time to take tests.  You might  want to talk to the instructor and suggest or ask for an alternative form of assessment.  College professors may not be used people with different learning styles, but if you could suggest a way that you could complete the course objective and demonstrate that you have learned the material that the instructor wants you to learn, maybe they would allow this.

I'm not sure what would work for you, but maybe using an outline or notecards, or presenting privately to the professor instead of in front of the class.  Be fair when you make your plea to the instructor: if you suggest you should only have to tiny bit of work, they will think you are just trying to avoid working.

  2. There are college and school rules about helping people with learning difficulties to take exams.

Check with the college bursar or head for the policy.

Keep at it and best wishes. My son is dyslexic and doing well.
