I am embarrassed to visit the dentist because I haven't been in more than 1 year!

I know what your going to say "dentists see people like this everyday", but that doesn't change how I feel. What can I do? My teeth aren't bad. I just want to begin visiting regularly. What would you think if you were a dentist and you saw a person that has not been in awhile?

Thanks

  1. Relax! =] It's going to be fine. If I were a dentist treating you I would understand. You have not had any dental treatment in a year, so whatever I find/see that is not right is totally understandable. You should not be embarassed.  You say your teeth arent bad, so theres nothing to worry about :) If you find yourself anxious or embarassed just relax, because there are worse cases out there. I was in the same situation as you matter of fact! I was quite nervous, however when i got there, she gave me advice on how to do something better, instead of insulting me of doing a bad brush job. Today I visit the dentist every 6 months, and I have a healthy smile =). It'll be fine. Good Luck :) <3

  2. I had about the same time as the guy that repsonded sying he is 20. and last went in 1997. Do not worrry. I''ll tell you something my teeth were mess, meaning crooked. I brushed good and everyday since they last told me I needed braces back when I was 13 years old. Never went always wnated to go but was scared of what they wre going to do. I know I needed major work but never had the money. Like about in July my sister said she was waiting for new insruance package and dental cause she wanted to go and I kind of envy her because of her perfct smile. So I decided to go on my own and explained to the dentist that I had not gone in years and they treated me well and I told them "Look I know I need alot of work

and they said its ok were to help just relax we understand. and thats it. It turn out I had no Cavities or major things after several years! I just needed a depp cleansing of plaque. on some teeth. Then went to the ortho and now have braces on my way to  a great smile. Just go ahead they will treay you right! good luck some of us have it worst, you will be ok

Oh yeah and i am currently 20 years old 21 this month so there you go like 7 years maybe

  3. Who cares? A year is no big deal and a visit can easily pass anyone by who has a busy schedule.

You're gonna be a lot more embarrassed in 2 years.

  4. Happens all the time...."glad to have you back...how can we help you?"

  5. oh really i haven't gone to the dentist since i dont know when the last time i remember was like in 1997 i think  and I am 20

  6. I would probably be glad that they're beginning to see me regularly. My parents weren't the best about dental care when I was a kid, so I went for years without seeing one. When I went back, they were very nice and didn't say anything mean about it or anything. They just checked my teeth and cleaned up, then scheduled an appointment 6 months down the road. It's very easy to get back into regularly visiting again.

  7. Better late than never.

  8. I'm 16 and have NEVER gone to the dentist.

    But I went today....

Trust me, you got it better than me :))
