Can I learn driving knowing well that I have never driven a vehicle earlier? Is my fear to learn to drive normal?

  1. Yes! I am a 31F and I'm still learning many new things. I want to learn how to play the guitar and piano, and I also want to learn how to cook good Indian curry. I bet you could help me with that! You know, I read many of the questions that you ask and you seem like a very interesting person. I'd love to talk to you through e-mails. Send me one! Talk to you soon!

And don't worry about learning to drive. I have only had my license for 6 years and I was really scared when I first learned, but I am an expert now! I drive everywhere!

    Good Luck! :)

  2. You can absolutely learn to drive well at this age. You might even be at an advantage, since as teenagers our minds and response times are not always fully developed yet, which is one reason why teens can cause accidents sometimes. And, you are approaching it with a whole different level of maturity and caution, which is a great thing!!!

Your fear is totally normal, and I commend you for being brave enough to confront and overpower your fear. I have met several people in my life who were afraid to drive. One of them, is now in her 70s and is facing having to learn to drive for the very first time, because her husband (the family driver) has taken ill and now they're both at a serious disadvantage.

I would start with learning to drive first, then move on to riding a bike. They are 2 totally different things, and in my humble opinion, learning to ride a bike is much more difficult, because you have to master balance.

Take some driving courses. You'll do so well you'll probably amaze yourself! Good luck!

  3. My mother was 48 when she learned to drive.  She took lessons at a Sears Driving School.  I don't know if you have one near you, but I do recommend having lessons from a professional teacher if you possibly can.  It will save a lot of unhappiness between you and a friend trying to teach you, because it will be more professional and less personal.  Plus a professional driving instructor should have a clue about how teach you in the way that will work for you, whereas a friend might be focussed on doing things the way he or she learned, which might or might not work for you.

As for learning to ride a bicycle, I would say, if you have good balance, and legs strong enough to get the bike moving fast enough to maintain that balance, it should be possible.

    Good luck!

  4. Sure you can but I would recommend that you take a driving course as well as a defensive driving course also..................

  5. Of course you can. Take lessons from a Professional Driving Instructor though and not from your friends. I also agree with UCANTCME about the Defensive course.

Just remember that as an adult, you will take longer to pick up the skills due to the fact that adults have more fear when learning new things.

Be patient, begin with steering control (this takes time), and stick with regular lessons. It may cost you more, but it's worth it in the long run.

I have had some older students who would take a lesson, and then another one a month later.......this doesn't work because you lose what you are learning. Take regular lessons, starting with two a week, and then one a week as you develop your skills and confidence.......you may even fail a couple of tests.........I prefer to call that "deferred success" because you will eventually pass that test if you stick with it.....

    YOU GO GIRL !!!

Have fun and hey, you can ask for a female instructor if you wish......
