  1. The antibiotic stays in your system for 3 to 4 days after you stop taking the pills.  If it still persists after that, contact your doctor so he can prescribe a different antibiotic for you.

Remember, you must take antibiotics exactly as prescribed or they will not do the job.

    good luck

  2. You need to go back to a doctor, same or a different one.  If the doctor did not do a culture, then an educated guess about the cause of the tonsillitis was made.  If you have not improved, a different antibiotic or stronger dose may be needed.

In general if you are on the right antibiotic, there should be improvement in 3 - 4 days.  If you have a virus antibiotics do no good.

    I am an RN.

  3. Oh gosh. You should have told your doctor after about four days that it didn't seem to be working. If it was actual "penicillin" then almost everything is resistant to that nowadays. You need a more advanced antibiotic. When I am given Amoxicillin (a slightly more advanced antibiotic) it doesn't work about 9 out of 10 times, and they prescribe me something else a little more advanced. Call a doctor right away and ask for them to call in a prescription for something else! Don't wait!
