  1. LPG heating was more expensive to run that oil. All fuel prices have risen.

I removed an LPG combi system from my daughters house and fitted an oil combi system in January 2006, and it halved there fuel bill.

A good way to calculate your annual fuel usage is to check the burn rates for your choice of boiler and do 6 months max usage and 6 months minimum, this'll give you a good guide to your annual consumption.

Also remember with LPG bottles are dearer than bulk but with bulk you usually pay to have the tank installed and then pay rental on it.

Had you considered a two boiler set up, one oil and one multi fuel to burn wood, coal and household waste?

  2. LPG is the most expensive and evey time car fuel goes up at the pumps LPG goes up at the same time.

You also cant shop around for cheaper deals as BP has a cartel going so its the same price whoever you buy from.

Their customer service stinks as well.

  3. LPG stands for Liquefied Petroleum Gas and is a by product of oil and is therefore linked to the price of oil. It has a lower calorific value than oil ( You get less heat out of it) and has always been the most expensive form of heating to run and probably will be in the future. Oil is more expensive to install but in the long term will be cheaper to run.

  4. Propane gas heating is expensive, the servicing is very expensive, as the controls are more sophisticated than for oil, and when they go wrong prepare to pay more.

Oil is easy to store, and you know exactly what you have bought.

Propane tanks are hired by the company, and you have to pay rental on them even if you dont use any gas.

Oil servicing is only once per year, and should not exceed £50 per visit.

  5. Oil has a higher BTU rating than LPG but the cost seems to be out of line.  So go with LPG.

  6. Neither Electric and fiddle it the way prices are going just now you won't be able to use the others.
