  1. don't get so concerned, my cousin who is 14 flies alone all the time :D

  2. Personally, I'd take the unaccompanied service if you're a) flying internationally  b) transferring  c) an inexperienced (as in you fly less than once or twice a month) traveler  d) uncomfortable with the airport itself, clearing security/customs, or are sensitive to flying or e) a combination of any of the above.

However, if all of these are true, I wouldn't worry.  Unfortunately, this doesn't mean that you won't run into any problems.  Last time I flew into Paris, I still managed to get a bit lost in the airport.  Despite flying into and out of CDG about once a week, speaking fluent French, and having access to the fast-track Acces No. 1 lines, I still had problems.  The plane got diverted to a different (unfamiliar) terminal because of to much congestion around Terminal 2E.  So I got to have a lovely time exploring a brand new section of one of the world's largest airports.

If you ever have a problem, you can always ask someone from the airport staff to point you in the right direction.  Like you originally thought, the United unaccompanied minor service is optional for someone of your age.

Hope this helps, have a nice flight, and good luck! =]

  3. hi you

you will be fine dont worry the airline staff normally make sure of this and if you do have a problem you contact a staff member of united and they will sort it for you so relax and enjoy your flight

  4. i flew alone last year when I was 14.

i didnt need that child care thing anyway.

my dad still came with me to the gate, he left 10 misn before boarding...i got to watch the planes take off and land...when I boarderd, I was asked if I was ok flying myself (well duh..)...relax, watch whatever they put on for entertainment, take your time getting off the aircraft.....just enjoy it.

not many 14 year olds are allowed to fly by themselves (without been UM's)...

  5. I am a flight attendant, so I'll tell you everything you need to know.

When they mention the option of "special service" that means you would have to be escorted everywhere you go by either the flight attendant or the gate agent. They keep a very close eye on you so that you don't get hurt, lost, confused, etc...There is a bit of paperwork that has to be filled out by your parents or whoever is dropping you off and picking you up. It also costs extra money I think.

  6. i used to fly accompained with a flight attendant and the only thing they do is take u from the terminal to the plane and  customs and from plane to terminal through costums, baggage, and security. im sure a 14 year old can do that by /herself like im 16 and i dont use that service anymore cuz i can read signs and and if i get lost they can ask for help. its a waste of money, unless the child is flying to a country that speaks a different language or a big airport he might get lost in like one at tokyo or something.
