Will I be able to take it in my carry-on bag like a laptop?

Will it be safe if I firmly pack it in my checked luggage surrounded by clothes, and lock the suitcase?

Would it be a better option to send it via Australia Post, or a courier service such as FedEx?

I believe it weighs about 9kg.

I am flying with Qantas.

This is a one way flight, I am moving permanently.

Yes, I do need to take it with me.

Thank you.

  1. I ALWAYS keep my laptop with me in my carry on. Not only is it nice to play on it when I'm bored, but that way I know it's safe. I've heard lots of horror stories about broken, stolen laptops. I say don't risk it.

  2. you can put it in your carry-on.

  3. Carry-on Baggage Allowances

For the safety and comfort of all our customers, and to ensure compliance with Civil Aviation Safety Authority Regulations, it is necessary to limit the size, weight and number of each customer's carry on baggage.

Carry-on baggage should be kept as light as possible as there are considerable distances to walk upon arrival or departure at some airports. However you should carry fragile and valuable items, such as electronic equipment (including laptops, mobile phones), cameras, cash, keys and jewellery etc. in your carry-on baggage. You should also take any essential medication and prescriptions on board with you.

A charge will apply for any baggage carried in excess of the free allowance. Additional collection rates vary depending on the destination.

Personal articles such as an overcoat, handbag, umbrella, walking stick, small camera, duty free items and some reading matter for the flight may be carried in the cabin.

Be sure to label baggage inside and out, with your name, address and contact number for your destination. Labels can be obtained from Qantas, your local travel agent or at

    check-in.

Carry-on baggage allowances vary from carrier to carrier.~ Carry-on baggage allowances on Qantas operated flights for adults and children (except infants) are:

All International (country specific exceptions apply)* First/Business/Premium Economy:

    2 x 115cm (45in) bags or

    1 x 115cm (45in) bag plus 1 x 185cm (73in) non rigid garment bag

    Economy:

    1 x 115cm (45in) bag or

    1 x 185cm (73in) non rigid garment bag 7kg (15lb) per piece

    Checked/Carry on Total

    All other International^  First: 40kg (88lb)

    Business: 30kg (66lb)

    Premium Economy: 20kg (44lb)

    Economy: 20kg (44lb)

    Infants:+ 10kg (22lb)
