Question:

I am from America. Do the initials "GP" stand for general practitioner in the U.K.? In other words a...?

regular doctor? I figure it does, but I just want to doublecheck since we don't use those initials for a doctor in the United States.

  1. well my family and i just moved to the u.k. like a year ago from orange county California and it does mean general practitioner but in the u.k. they also act as a gynecologist and you only have to have mammograms every three years......now i'm not entirely sure about the gynecologist part but i'm sure about he mammogram part :) hope this helps!

    Also GP is used for Grand Prix as in motor racing.

  6. Yes. He is there to look after your general health and if he cant figure out whats wrong with you he will refer you to a specialist at the local hospital.

    G.P. means a professional in general practice, i.e. a non-specialist; of a physician, it essentially means they do not work in a hospital.
