  1. I am an American who moved to the Czech Republic six months ago.

You can stay here legally for 90 days.  Afterwards, you are supposed to apply for a long-term visa, which gives you another year.  This visa can be extended from year to year if the Czech consulate approves of your application.

You can also apply for the long term visa BEFORE you come here.  They will require:

    1)    An apartment contract, written in Czech, showing that you have a place to stay for the year.  They are very picky about this.  My contract said it was automatically renewed every three months, and they made a fuss about that.

    2)    A bank account statement, showing that you have at least the equivalent of $5,000.

    3)    A letter, written in Czech, explaining the reason for your stay here.  In my case, it was to attend a Czech school, and they called my school just to verify it was legitimate.  They are very meticulous, it seems!

    4)    A valid passport, good for at least 15 months.

    5)    Two passport-sized photos for the application.

In my case, I was already here, so I had to go outside the country to apply for the visa.  I chose Slovakia.  I had to bring all the above information, as well as a document from the Czech Police, showing I had not committed a crime here.

Send me an email if you want.  I can tell you more.  By the way, are you sure you want to come here?  The Czech language is not very easy.
