  1. George is about right with his 1000.- Euro minimum estimate. If you rent a flat etc, it's expensive, and you have to pay for EVERYTHING extra: electricity, water, heating, garbage collection, etc.

And all those service-related things are extremely expensive in Germany.

For groceries, use the cheap supermarkets, ALDI, LIDL, NORMA, PLUS and PENNY.

The major drugstore chains (Müller, dm, Rossmann) all have very similar prices.

Stick to C&A, when it comes to clothes, etc., or maybe H&M.

When it comes to service, always be sure to compare prices - prices for a haircut, for example, can vary widely.

If you need to rely on public transport while in Mannheim, do get someone at your company who speaks Germyn to check out if the following option is suitable for you:

    http://www.vrn.de/fahrausweise/fahrkarte...

Also, check out the Cinemaxx cinema - they show some movies in English.

As for the airport, Frankfurt and Stuttgart are about the same distance from Mannheim, but I guess almost all flights from Asia will go to Frankfurt anyway.

  2. If you will have to take care of a place to stay and all food on your own calculate at least 1000 € per month.

There are people who live with less I know this  for sure but to my opinion with less than 1000 € you can't talk about living but only from preventing to die !

The next city to fly in coming from Asia would be Frankfurt am Main.Frankfurt is not far at all, and from Frankfurt airport there is a direct train connection to Mannheim.
