I am from manitoba, canada and am charged with dwi in north dakota. What are the consequences in manitoba from this?

I refused the fst and the breathalyzer and have already paid the fine ($300) Will this be a class b misdemeanor?

  1. The will likely be no direct consequences in Canada, however you can be refused entry if you try to go back into the States or if you try to travel to another country since you now have a criminal record, they could also refuse you entry.

    Consider yourself lucky that you didn't have to do any jail time, they are very strict in the US with sentencing and sometimes you could get a year or more just for a DWI.  I know people that broke their probation for old DWI charges and ended up doing over a year just for that!


  2. Yeah. Unless it is a serious crime (see Murder), the American police won't bother trying to get you tried for it, it's too complicated for them. The best place to do these kinds of things is in the US because of this.

  3. What happens in the state usually stays there unless its a federal or serious crime
