I am currently reading up on the Schengen Agreement and the UK's lack of complete participation {a la the Euro currency} and how this will affect my access and stay in Greece but any feedback you people can give me is appreciated...

  1. Asimenia is the expert of course in this instance, but just to pick up your question, actually the Schengen Agreement has no bearing on your circumstances

The Schengen agreement is basically to allow travel without borders (e.g. checking of passports on every country's borders, and for foreign nationals having to obtain different visa's for every single country)

As you are a Brit the only "inconvenience" of the Schengen agreement to you in this regard is that every time you enter/exit the UK, is that you have to show your passport

Also the UK not being part of the Euro is not an obstacle to moving abroad as you will of course be living and working in Greece with the Euro.  It is only if you have to send money to the UK (for example) that you have to encounter currency transfer costs

Both the UK & Greece are part of the EU, and this is the important aspect for you.  This means that under EU law you have the right to uplift and move to Greece without the normal hassle of obtaining e.g. work visas that non-EU/EEA nationals have to do.  So this is a big benefit to you

As for local admin/bureaucracy, well I'll leave that one to the locals like Asimenia who know best.  Get as much info as you can from helpful people like her, it can only benefit you in moving!

  2. You are british right? then no problem... but I suggest you contact your embassy in Greece:

    http://www.britishembassy.gov.uk/

    ;)

  3. Are you British? If so there is no problem moving to Greece, if you are coming from the uk but originally of a different nationality it may be different.

If you are British you can move to & work in any other EU country.

  4. If you are a British citizen you are a EU member so in Greece you have the exact same rights as any Greek citizen.

  5. As the answerer above me said: If you are British , just move, no one can stop you. If your girlfriend is Greek, you may want to come here for a few months and see how life is for you both with her parents in close vicinity. Life may not be as you expect it. I have been the victim of racist parents and I would not want to give that experience to my worst enemy. If she was a student in UK - then I can guarantee life will not be as you know it with her in Greece.
