  1. After 13 years there should be something that you can do. I would seek the advice of an attorney. They should not charge you for a consultation.

  2. Depends where you live. In Canada you are considered in a common law marriage if you have been together for three years. One year if you have children adopted or not. I would suggest regardless of your jurisdiction you contact a lawyer for professional advice.

  3. Nope, and this is why legislation for g*y marriage needs to be passed. Unless the two of you specifically signed legal documents attesting to an agreed-upon distribution of assets (both money and property) I'm afraid you're out of luck. Common sense, decency and "doing the right thing" should tell your partner not to simply dump you on a street corner and wish you "all the best," but with no legal leg to stand on, I'm afraid he CAN do that.

While hitching your wagon to a star seems like a good idea, I might suggest you make your OWN way in the world, build up your OWN reserves of property and money and not be so dependent upon someone else for a "fantastic lifestyle." If you want that, you need to EARN it. There's no such thing as a free lunch and I'm afraid you're finding that out now... the hard way.

  4. Rights?  So you think because you can't afford rent, where you live now, that he should have to pay you money?  What a frickin joke.  Move into a place that you CAN afford.  Holy cr@p.  If you lived with a college roommate for 4 years, he graduated and you wanted to stay to get a masters degree, then your roommate would have to help you pay rent?  Sounds silly, doesn't it.  Unless you have some binding agreement, (i.e. marriage license, civil union document, etc.), you are S**t out of luck.

  5. You have rights as a human, but you don't have rights as a g*y, if that makes sense.

  6. yup,sad but true, you cant do anything and he can.....
