I am getting 3MB yet everyone test says 1MB 2 miles from exchange could provider be witholding speed?

have been told a technician can come out and sort problem out if so would like to know details before phoning any one know?

  1. DSL or Cable?

    Cable generally shares connection with neighbors.

    If using DSL you could have noise on your line. Talk about splitting your data and voice.

    Also, make sure your equipment isn't out dated.


  2. Can you clarify with more details, try this speed test. It will give you seperate upload and download. If your computer is slow, try the text based test. It will do download only, but should give you a better idea.

    Now, take this into account. If you have high latency, say 300+ ms before the test starts, that is going to skew the numbers dramatically. The tests work by seeing how long it takes to download or upload a file. If it takes you a half a second to even start the test, that will drastically make your bandwidth look slower.

    Also, a lot of providers when they sell you a speed, they sell you "Up to XXXX MB per second" And as long as you get a connection, they could give a rats behind how fast you really get.
