  1. start at hunter u r not odd at all u worked your *** off 4 4 years!

  2. In response to Donald S, the person who WORKS the horse is the person who owns it. A horse doesn't bond with someone who throws hay in his pen and mucks. I board my horses so someone else "cares" for them technically. But I am the one who grooms them, does groundwork, and rides them. So they know I am their "owner".

  3. Donald S is mostly right except for the bragging part

    your not bragging your excited.

well good for you now your getting a horse......well i am not a jumper i do rodeos but i do know the diffrences in english riding....i would start of hunter and move up so your horse gets more experienced......like donald s said horses are a big responsibility and need lots of attention..but since you worked your a*s off for 4 years i think you will do good.

    good luck best wishes

  4. The first thing is to get to KNOW your horse and for him to get to KNOW you!!  Find out his strengths and weeknesses and in the processes "yours". You may find out that the Hunter class is best for him or he may in fact be a jumping prospect. But whatever you do,remember, DO WHAT IS BEST FOR YOUR HORSE!!!!!

  5. Congratulations!!  Getting a new horse is always an exciting experience! I'm just curious as to why you bought a hunter if you wanted to show jumper? You said your new horse will do better in hunter and you in jumper so you will have to start off slow and get to know your horse. He may not like jumper and always be more of a hunter. Just take your time and slowly work your way into jumper with him. After you get to know him and your working as a team he may surprise you and turn out to be an amazing jumper! You should probably start off in a few schooling shows just to get started! I think that you and your new horse will do just fine! Don't worry about it too much! Just wait and see.. Hope this helps...

  6. Congrats!!

I would say definetly start off in the hunters, because if he's comfortable there it would be better for him. It's not THAT much of a big jump from jumpers to hunters, anyways. I'd say do a couple hunter classes, then work in the off season on making him more of a jumper.

  7. Try doing both at once you can go in beginner Jumpers and advanced hunter. Or the other way around depending on what you and your horse do best at. Good luck, Have fun with your new horse!!!!!

  8. idk a fence hay alot of things!

  9. WOW!!! My situation was just about the same! I have been taking Hunter\Jumper lessons for about 4 years and the whole time dreaming of the day i got my own. I did everything possible trying to convince my parents i was ready, and finally this summer not only did i get one horse(an older QH gelding, but two amazing horses(6 year old TB mare). All the hard work has payed off even though now i really am working my but off to keep both horses happy and healthy! I agree with the other people on you should gradually work him up to the jumper level.

Congrats!!! I know just how you feel!!!!

  10. Having any pet, and a horse is a pet, is a huge responsibility, not to be taken lightly.  This living wonder is now totally dependent on a human, YOU, for his very life: food, water, health care, training, shelter, comfort, love, understanding, and above all: constant and undivided care and attention.  A horse is not something one should merely put in a pasture, a stall, or corral and brag about.   Horses need lots of exercise and care to stay healthy.  Are YOU ready to Commit to this with ALL your heart???  If not, then don't break its heart by getting it and forgetting it.

As to types: nothing beats a Cutting-Horse for intelligence and nothing beats a Quarter horse for speed and nothing beats a painted horse for beauty.  If you can get a horse that combines all 3, you have a most precious Jewel.

Where will your horse be spending its time when you are not there?  If you entrust his care to someone else, then he is NOT really YOUR horse.  His love belongs to the one who gives him his care.   Treat a horse like a beloved friend and he will be one.   Secret:  Put yourself in the horse's place:

Do YOU like what is happening?????

  11. Definietly show in a schooling show a little while after you get him but every horse is different. DO the hunter first because if he is a new horse you dont want him to freak out in his first show doing jumps just stay on the ground for a little while and see how he does. remember baby steps
