I am getting a tattoo and will be out in the sun for most of the time. Should I cover it with a light bandage?

Also if I wanted to go swimming should I place a waterproof skin tight bandage on it. I will only swim for about 10 min at the most in a lake.

I can not postpone getting a tattoo because a month after I get it I will start lifeguarding training. I am getting a small black one on my forearm.

Thanks

  1. Sun WILL fade your tattoo.  There's no way around that.  Tattoo artists recommend that you keep your new tattoo away from sun and well moisturized with lotion as it heals.

If you stress your skin too much, you'll risk scarring over your tattoo area.  Knowing that you're going to get something permanently inked on your body, it'll be important for you to make sure to take the time to care for it properly.

After your tattoo has ample time to heal, I would still recommend avoiding the sun altogether for the first month, after which point - always protect it with sunscreen.   If your lifestyle does not permit you time to properly care for your tattoo, please reconsider getting it.  Scars are permanent too.

  2. I was told to keep it dry for the 1st week, definately not to go swimming...

  3. well lets see cheep it dry for a bout 1 or 2 weeks
