The purpose of my website will be mainly for showing what i can use web site building tools and create a decent web page. i am starting a minor in web design. (with a major in pre-vet --odd combo right?)

But i have not started any classes yet, however i do know how to use javascript, and html codes, and flash and whatnot.

so im probably gonna buy it from either godaddy.com or domain.com..

do you have a suggestion on which one to use?

and also, after i buy my domain name, how does my website go on the internet?

  1. I use godaddy and its a good hosting and domain name provider. Cheep and afordable. You will design your website on your computer and then when you believe you are up and ready to go - you will then upload all your html documents up to godaddy.com hosting servers...

there will be a link on the front page that says hosting servers - when you hold your mouse over this (you have to be logged in to use this feature) you will find an upload link where it will allow you to upload all your files into the website space they have allowed for you

I also find godaddy has bearly any down time so you won't have to worry about your website being down for long periods of time. Well deserved as a good hosting company

  2. godaddy is the easiest way to go if you have no knowledge of website creating...

After you buy it, your website gets "on the internet" through hosting. GoDaddy has hosting for $4/month I think (fairly cheap)

After your hosting is linked to your domain and points to their servers, your site will be "online"

You will then have to upload HTML (or equivilant files) so people can see it, usually the main page is index.html which godaddy has a default one until you upload yours

  3. Java Tutorials- http://javatutorial.info/

  4. meh...a lot of people use godaddy, but I'd suggest BlueHost. You can buy your domain name and also the hosting service with them. They've got Cpanel where you can upload and edit your HTML / web documents

  5. I suggest http://www.pomirc.net over most others...i would check them out...
