I am getting contacts and I needed some opinions from experienced people. I am kind of scared of getting them stuck in my eyes and all that weird stuff. Can anyone give me pointers and ease my mind a little?

  1. at first, they may be hard to get in and out, but eventually you'll be doing it so fast! when you're putting them in, have the contact on your index finger, and squirt the solution on it then, instead of just letting it soak. it just goes in better in my experience. also, change your solution every night and be careful when you have eye makeup on=/ as for taking them out, what i do is try to slide the contact down to the bottom of your eye so that it folds and it's easier to grab. good luck=)

  2. I just got them today!! Trust me, they WONT get stuck in your eye. Talk to your eye docter they'll teach you everything you need to know

  3. I understand your concerns, as I had the same ones before I got my contacts. My stupid emmetropic friends told me it could get stuck behind my eye, but they were wrong. There's an organ called the conjunctiva ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conjunctiva ) that effectively acts as a barrier. The lens can, however, move a little bit to the side of the eye and simply remain on the sclera (the white part of the eye). This can be solved by simply moving your eye and looking to where the contact is, and it will simply get back on your eye. The lens can sometimes get folded so you won't be able to get it back on the cornea, in which case you'll have to remove it, unfold it and put it back in.

As for putting the contact in, it may seem difficult at first, but after about a week you'll get used to it. I can put mine in about 5 seconds each. Just a word of advice - if you have long nails then you should be careful not to tare the lens with them, as that happened to me before (and I'm a boy, so it doesn't take really long nails).

I have developed a special method of removing them - I take my index finger and gently push the contact aside, and then I grab at it. It is painless (unlike trying to take it out straight from the cornea) and it doesn't ruin the cotnact.

Also, NEVER EVER put them in tap water (if you must, you can boil the water beforehand, but that's only a temporary solution).

I personally use the one day acuvue moist, and I like them a lot :)

I can see a lot better with them on, and I hardly wear my glasses anymore (another important advice - don't wear your contacts 24/7 as it will deprive your eye of much needed oxygen. I wear mine for twelve hours everyday, although I can wear them for up to sixteen hours without any discomfort).

Should you have any concerns, feel free to email me or ask your local omptometrist.

  4. Haha, oh don't worry.

    You're stressing over absolutely nothing.

-They're simple to put in, I had it down in a week.

-They've never gotten stuck in my eye lol, it can't really happen. They go off your coloured part/pupil the odd time but its easy to fix that, by looking up and down and side to side to find it, or simply rubbing your eye and it'll fall out.

-When putting them in, I'd suggest looking away, cause it can be weird looking at yourself poking yourself in the eye ;P. At least until youre used to them.

-Make sure you put them in new solution every night [if you're getting monthlys] and clean them properly to avoid infections.

Really, contacts are no biggie. A nice change to having to wear glasses. I wore glasses for a year before getting contacts and now I never wear my glasses. I love contacts. ;D
