  1. no. aquatic hermit crabs are marine only. land hermit crabs are just that, only need a small tub of water, they'd die fully submerged.

other crabs that get sold as freshwater, avoid, they're brackish not freshwater. and also need to get out of the water, not fully aquatic. as well as being quite partial to catching fish for dinner.

some shrimp are suitable for living with fish, watch the smaller ones may get eaten by larger fish though. and avoid long-arm shrimp and crayfish as these both catch and eat fish.

  2. Never keep a hermit crab under water it'll only live for a month!!!! Unless if you have a saltwater tank and a saltwater crab.

  3. they are also salt water.

  4. hermit crabs do not live in water...only blue leg hermits are water crabs but they only live in saltwater

  5. got to petsmart

and they'll tell u wht kind u can put in there

  6. As the others told you, hermit crabs are either land dwelling or for saltwater tanks.  Any other crabs or crayfish you can get are not a good idea for tanks with fish as they will kill and eat the fish.  Many people think they are cool and will be ok with the fish since the fish stay up at the top and the crabs stay down at the bottom.  Well, guess what?  Most fish need to sleep sometime.  So everything seems to be going along just fine and the people say,

"Hey, I have a tank with fish and a crab (or crayfish) and all my fish are fine!"

And then suddenly one night, when you and the fish are trying to catch some z's, there goes the fish.  And you wake up to nothing but little fishy bones at the bottom of the tank.

  7. There are two types of hermit crabs.  One type lives on land and the other is a saltwater version.  In a freshwater tank, you can't add either. The first will drown and the second will quickly die due to the lack of marine water.

  8. Hermies live on land Not Water

  9. You cannot keep a hermit crab in a freshwater aquarium.  Land hermit crabs will drown and aquatic hermit crabs need a marine (salt water) aquarium.

  10. Sure, if it's a marine hermit crab.

  11. No becasue hermit crabs live on land and not in the water.

There are other crustceans you can get depending on what kind size of fish your keeping like crayfish, freshwater blue lobsters and shrimp.  Crayfish/lobsters will eat anything they can catch so you can house them with larger fish species exclusively.  A store near me has them together with blue gills for example

  12. No hermit craps need land. get a bamboo shrimp
