I am getting married in Provence, France next year in July. Any ideas on great places for guests to stay?

We are hoping to have the wedding at Crillon le Brave, a very small village about 30 minutes outside of Avignon. However, the rooms range from $300-$900 a night and we won't expect people to stay there. If you have a better place to get married, I'd love your ideas! We're heading over in September to learn more so the more information you can provide the better. Thanks so much!!!

  1. Sounds like a wonderful idea but may I ask if you or your intended are are a legal resident of France?

French law requires that one of the parties to be married has resided in France for at least 40 days preceding the marriage. This requirement can not be waived.

  2. You could have them get room in Avignon and drive/rent a coach to Crillon, depending how many people are coming.

Here is the tourist information site of Avignon in English, it lists the hotels from four stars to none with prices.

In addition to Rillifane's caveat, here is mine. Do you intend to have your wedding registered in France? In that case you have to know that if you want a religious wedding there's two ceremonies, the civil wedding by the mayor - which is a rather short ceremony - and the religious wedding afterwards. The French government recognises only the civil one and won't give you married status if you are only married by a priest in France. Most couples do both in the same day, in the morning the Town Hall and in the afternoon the church.

As for the place, Avignon is lovely and the weather in July is great. Dress for warm weather. However, be aware that this is a popular summer destination so if you want to book a hotel do it long in advance.

Good luck and I hope you will have the wedding you dream of.
