Since we are getting married at 7:30 at night we are not planning on a full meal. I was wanting to do fruit and veggie trays, cheese and sausage, seafood fondue, meatballs and crousant wrapped lil weenies. I just don't know how much to do of each. I am planning on about 120 people.

  1. its a guess.

id say 12 trays in total.

if u have alcoholic beverages, then people really dont care what youll have and or how many.

    more alcohol the better.

  2. The general rule is to count on about 3-4 pieces of food per person per hour.  If your ceremony is at 7:30, your reception will probably not get underway good until about 8:45-9p.  If it lasts until at least midnight, that's 3 hours of food. This may be a little neurotic, but here's my breakdown using the five appetizers you mentioned:

    1440 total pieces

    288 pieces per tray

To be safe I would round everything up to 300 pieces, people like to eat when they drink.  Or you could go heavy on the "more economical" appetizers like fruit and veggie, and pull back on the seafood to save money.

    Congrats!!

  3. Make 50 trays

  4. your nuts! i catered my wedding for 13.00 a person

i got a big salad, baked ziti, penne vodka, eggplant parm, roast beef with gravy, chicken marsala, roasted potatoes and green beans!

13.00 a person!!!! you are going to spend way more time and money cooking yourself

start saving NOW and just call a local italian pizzeria/resturaunt!!

  5. If its your day the last thing you should be worrying about is the food. Its a great idea to save $$ by not hiring a caterer but have you thought about doing a potluck - everyone bring a dish (you could assign it to make sure you get a good balance). I went to a wedding where depending on your last name you brought either an appitizer a salad a  dessert etc. I worked out really well and as each couple attending brought a dish there was just the right amount of food. Everone really enjoyed doign there part and we had some great food.

  6. if theres 120 ppl i would suggestm about 1kg per person.. it depends on how big the sizes and the different ways they look and whether ppl actually like them.. its not very easy to guess how much you will need.. but just remember that no matter what the left over food can be your dinner, or given to friends.. it wont just be rubbish.. i would suggest going shopping every week and looking at the specials and buying some of the things you need and freezing them.. only a month or two before the wedding though, that way when the big day comes closer you will have enough, even a little left over..

  7. 1. Veggies tray - 3 large

    2. fruit tray - 3 large

    3. cheese and sausage enough for 3-4 pieces per person

    4. seafood fondue, well that one is a little harder, if you recipe indicates it serves 12, know that 3-4 serving per

    5. meatballs, again 3-4 maybe even 5-6 per person

    6.  weenies - about 4-5 per person, those are so addicting that people may grab several.

Sounds like you have a nice arrangement of food.  You may want to consider mini quiche (Costco has an excellent brand), they also have a jalapeno artichoke dip that is fantastic.  Always nice to get a little help from the store.

Congratulations and best of luck with your meal preparation.

  8. great idea to plan.  I would suggest things that you can prepare in advance since you'll probably have other things to do than prepare food on your wedding day.   Things that are easy to heat up, things that can sit out for a while.
