My class is Freestyle 2. Since they are new skates I'm not sure if taking a class with them is healthy. The skates I am going to get are either the Reidell Elite Royal 900 or the Gold Star 375. Also, can old skates get stretched to about a half to a full size bigger because I really like my old skates which are not made anymore.. i think. I am returning to ice skating after 4 years so I am a bit clueless. Thanks

  1. At home you should walk around with them with your blade guards on to get used to it. Bend your knees and try to get used to the new boot.

If it still feels awkward while you are skating during your lesson then you should use your old skates during the lesson and putting your old skates back on during the practice.

  2. It would be fine to wear them to lessons.  You have to break them in somehow!  Tell your instructor that you're wearing new skates and I'm sure they'll understand.  If you wear your old skates, you're just putting off breaking in your new ones for your next lesson.  I would wear them and take along some Bunga pads or just round makeup sponges to put in places they might be rubbing.  Don't lace them up all the way.  Try skipping the last hole and don't lace the top hook to give you a little flexibility.  Once you feel more comfortable in them, then lace them normally.

    Congrats on the new skates!
