My roommates and I are getting reday to go wireless. My roomate already is planning to get a wireless router and I am wondering if I should do the same or just get a usb network adapter? What are the benifits of both?

  1. No need for two wireless routers - one should be sufficient.  Make he buy the router, and then you can just buy an adapter to connect.

  2. Do you plan to share an internet connection? If you do you only need one router and the other person gets an adapter. Then you can split the costs. If you each want a router you will need 2 internet feeds and I guess you will each pay for their own. The only real advantage I can see is your internet speed could be a little faster on your own router but it probably won't be significant.

  3. Its not really good, because routers are best just for one computer, if you and your room mate are using the wireless network at the same time your computer will run very slow

  4. You all can share the same Wireless Router.  There will be plenty of bandwidth for you all to share.  Unless you pull from two different ISPs, or have two modems coming to your house cause you pay for separate accounts... you should be good to go using the same one.

Try getting either the Linksys WRT160N or the WRT300N.

If you both get a wireless router, they could conflict with eachother if you dont set up the channels right (use 1, 6, and 11 so they dont overlap)... but all in all, you both will be happiest on the same WAP.
