  1. you have roaming included for the united states.. not internationally. international roaming is a different ordeal and yes you would be charged a per minute rate as well as a possible connection fee if u call in cancun. these charges aren't really controlled by sprint but more less based on the price the country ur going to charges for coverage in that area.

call sprint's customer care and asked to get put through to their international roaming department.. get a plan cheap plan ( 4$ a month i think) and it'll save you LOADS if ur talking international.. and u can remove the plan when u come back later..

MAKE SURE THAT U ASK TO BE TRANSFERRED TO INTERNATIONAL ROAMING ... DO NOT buy an "international calling" package ( which coincidently is also 4$ a month).. these are two seperate things.. international calling is if ur in the united states calling out... roaming is if ur literally roaming internationally

its easy to get confused with this. so make sure u say the right thing and the rep gets u to the right place

    Have a wonderful trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. We had a problem using the cellphone. Best to call your carrier and let them know you are going international. Otherwise, the hotel charged $7 for the first minute and $5 each additional minute. My husband was able to use the walkie talkie of his Sprint/Nextel phone.

  3. As long as your sim card is unlocked it will pick up reception from the local cell phone companies. Remember, you're roaming so any calls answered or made from you phone will be really really expensive. Mine was like $3 a minute. Not a nice surprise. Send text messages, those are cheaper, or buy a calling card and use a pay phone! HAVE FUN!

  4. I don't know if this helps, but if you have a laptop with a card for wifi, and you can find a wifi spot (maybe sometimes free in your hotel or condo, or some restaurants like VIPs or Le Distilleria), you can call on Skype for free or very little money back home. We have vacation rental condos down there, and use our cable internet in our condo to call home for free. Local calls can be free, also. Also, you can rent cell phones to call each other in the city, if that's what you're looking for.

  5. I've been to Cancun, and I had service, but it wasn't an American service like Sprint or Verizon. It was called like Rockstar or something weird. It didn't cost too much to use my phone. I'm going back this summer, staying at the Moon Palace Resort for the 2nd time (I highly recommend it! It's all inclusive-- even alcohol is free-- and beautiful!!)

  6. I have been there a few times and never been able to get service when I turned on my phone.  But it has been three years since I went.  A travel agent should be able to tell you.
