I need to bring them 3 towns over....can I put them in a ziploc bag filled with water from the tank. I would get a bag from a petstore but the nearest one is an hour away.

  1. we moved from california to las vegas. one state over lol. what I did was I bought a portable pump and kept them in a 10 gallon tank. with the pump running. they all made it. =]

    i hope this helps.

I got my portable pump at pet smart. though i think pet co may have one also.

  2. just let thewater sit over night

  3. You Can put it into a ziploc bag but i think is better getting a bag from the petstore. But since your local petstore is so far away...dunno how can that be...but anyways...I think ziploc bag will be fine :D

  4. If you put them in ziplock bags, do not fill the bag completely with water, 1/3 water and 2/3's air.  If they will not be in the bag longer than an hour, they should be OK if you don't crowd them in the bags.  How many fish and what kinds is important.

A brand new 5 gallon bucket (never had soap, detergent or bleach in it) will work just as well, just put a couple gallons of tank water in it and the fish will be fine for the trip.  Make sure you set it in the car so it cannot tip over!  The motion of the car will keep the water moving and keep O2 transferring into the water from the atmosphere for them.

If you are giving them the tank too and it is small, (no larger than 15 gallons) you can lower the water level to about 2-3 inches and "leave the fish in it" while you transport it.  Any larger and you risk putting too much pressure on the corners and springing it, causing a leak.

Feel free to email me if you have more questions.
