I am going for the FLorida Highway Patrol and have no experience. Is there any pointers I should know ?

  1. Not much you need to do to prepare. For interviews, show up in a suit or at least decent jacket and tie. Shouldn't have to say this, but people often seem ignorant of this basic. Of course, be truthful throughout the process. They will check your background closely. Don't think you need to have experience or know anything much about the work. If you're asked what you would do or how you would handle something, It's okay to say, "I might ... or I might..., but I think I'll learn the right ways in training." When asked about situations that are ethical questions, respond with what's right. If it's a tough one, because it's doing the right thing versus trying to cover for another trooper, it's okay to acknowledge that that makes it tough but you would have to do whatever. There's not much way and not much point to fake it. Now, just because they don't expect you to have experience, doesn't mean you can get on the Internet and learn all you can about the agency and review news about it. It might let you show that you have real interest. And think carefully about why you want the job. They'll likely ask you at some point.,
