  1. Run for two miles and start off running 5 sets of bleachers and increase both miles and bleachers. run in hills to increase stamina and lung capacity, sand will help strengthen your legs for that blow by power the same with bleachers. You will be able to run your two miles and blow sprint by a guy at the finish. Always finish your run with a 1/4 mile sprint.

  2. A number of websites offer training programs for runners at all levels. Nike has some for anyone, from beginners to marathon runners. You can check on their sites at www.nikeplus.com... I believe Nike also has a running site that you can access from www.nikerunning.com... that site should have some learn to run programs too.

    I hope that helps!

  3. When I was going through Basic Training for the Army I found sprints to be the best method to improve quickly. I went from a 16:35 two mile to a 13:09 in nine weeks. I would suggest 60 sec. of sprint and 120 sec. of slow jogging. I would then repeat this until you hit your desired distance. I usually do 2 - 3 miles.

  4. I ran track last year and did the two-mile and mile races in the same day. my advice is run like a mile and a half for a couple days everyday then increase it by several hundred meters. do that for about three weeks. this should heip build your endurance.

  5. I'm in cross country right now but when it was track season i would run 4 miles at my own pace. this help me gain double the stamina which i concentrated the extra stamina when i run the 2 mile races.
