  1. cheap flare gun is never a bad idea. Radio (or cell phone, if the area has service) isn't either.


  2. Apart from all the usual gear and safety equipment I always take a few bags of peanuts and mars bars it was just in case I got caught out by fog or other weather conditions at least I had some high protein food with me.
