I am a teenager who is going on a cruise. My grandma said there were nights were there are fancy outings on the ship. Does anyone have any advice on what type of dress is acceptable for me to wear?

  1. I'm a huge fan of the "little black dress".  It works for all occasions.  On the cruise I went on there were two formal nights in the dining room.  One dress was fine for both times, and it's less to pack.

(Plus, who cares what strangers think if you've worn the same dress twice?  I don't remember what anyone wore.)

  2. The number of "formal" nights depends upon the length  of your cruise.  Cruises of 4 or 5-nights will have 1 formal night; 6, 7, & 8 night cruises will have 2 formal nights.

Quoting directly from the cruise line. . . . "Appropriate formal wear for women is a dressy outfit, while men should wear a tuxido or dark suit".

I'm sure that if you go through your wardrobe you'll find just the right thing to wear!

Have fun dressing up and I hope you really enjoy the cruise.  It's my favorite vacation.

  3. yes, something that dont show your figure a nice dinner dress from ross that comes to your knees, stockings and low hills to match gl

  4. I just went on my first cruise a year ago.  And yes, you usually have to dress nice for the dinners.  I would suggest slacks and a button up, collared shirt.  No tie neccessary UNLESS your ticket package states there is a "Formal" dining night, then you may want to bring a tie.  I believe the dress suggested is "resort casual" which means, basically, no jeans - but I wore jeans during the day and didn't feel out of place.  (As long as your jeans aren't full of holes!)

  5. you could get by with almost anything.

like a skirt and blouse.  fix your hair fancy to dress it up.

been on cruises.  i wore a $12 dress to one of the dress up nites.

and a long velvet dress to another one.  worked fine.

consider jewelry to dress things up if you don't have fancy clothes.  it's not worth buying something unless you just want to.

  6. I look for something that makes me feel feminine. Start with your favourite colour (I prefer to start with black myself.) A lightweight one piece dress is easiest, longer dresses are more elegant. A slip may be needed. (Match your undies to your skin-tone or to the outfit. Just try not to wear a white bra or camisole under a dark garment. This usually shows up in photographs.) Add only one or two complementary accessories, plus a purse. Choose your outfit and shoes with comfort in mind. Wear something that is comfortable to wear as you stand, walk or sit. If you don't want to wear pantyhose, use some of that shimmery body lotion on your legs. While you're at it, a touch on your shoulders would be nice too. Keep your make-up to the minimum. And have as much fun with your hair as you can. Or keep it very chic and simple.

Regardless of what you're wearing, if you keep your shoulders up and share your smile, you'll be sure to radiate that youthful energy! Have fun!!

  7. Cocktail dress or formal.

  8. At least one night of every cruise is a fancy-dress dinner, sometimes called a "Captain's Dinner."

Men usually wear a suit - a few men might wear tuxes, and some just might wear a nice shirt and slacks.

Women usually wear a dress or a dressy outfit, perhaps a cocktail dress.  Not prom-dress fancy, but something nice, like you might wear to the theater or a dinner at a country club.  Avoid anything too risque - it's dinner, not a dance club - but it doesn't have to be church-going modest either.  Whatever you're thinking of is probably fine.
