and not on the ship? I am curious to see the excursions that are not run by the cruise line. Let me know if you have done either and have any advice. Thanks!

  1. sorry i dont noe the answer to that question but i am going on a cruise to the same places

  2. I went to Cozumel on a cruise in the beginning of July.  I think that you should book your shore excursions through the cruise ship, but online before you go.  When I went, I went to the Mayan Ruins in Cozumel.  It was really cool, and it was an awesome place to take pictures.  I would definitely recommend you to save time at the end of the day to shop.  I didn't have time, but it was something that would have been fun.

    I hope this helps!

  3. Having worked on the MS Noordam for Holland America, I have spent a lot of time in  both ports.

Cozumel is a great place.  You will find lots of shopping.

My recommendation, is that you DO NOT BOOK SHORE EXCURSIONS ON BOARD.

Taxis are cheap. get one and go to the Chakanaab National Park. Snorkeling equipment is 7.00 per-person, entry is 10.00 per person.

Right next door is the swimming with the dolphins experience, about 99.00 per person.

The ships excursions go these places and cost lots more ( for the dolphins the ships charge 199.00 minimum)

You will be with the same ship people and spending a lot less.

Belize is a relatively new stop for cruises.

Get out of the city what ever you do. This is the most wonderful island, but you must travel to get to theses places.  Take taxis, or book your excursions on the dock with the vendors.

On a side note,  taking a taxi or excursion dock side does present a very small risk of the ship leaving without you.

This does not happen very often,  the vendors and taxi people all make their living off tourists. they want to get tipped and want everyone happy. they will try with all there might to get you back on time.

(Really, how often do you ever hear of someone getting left behind)

If you ever get left behind, got to the dock...there will be a Port Agent from the cruise line waiting for you. ( THEY KNOW YOUR BEHIND>>>)

They will make arraingments for you to catch your ship.

  4. Try horseback riding in the jungle - it is a great one day experience.

  5. Cozumel isn't a very exciting port in my opinion.

Hurricane hit it pretty hard several years ago.

There really isn't much to do there. There are options when you get off the ship with people around.

You can rent a car or scooter, and go fo a ride or to the beach, or shopping & drinking....

BELIZE is probably my favorite port.  Belize City is a pit.

You must get out of the city..

IF you are a bit adventurous, I HIGHLY recommend taking the water taxi to Caye Caulker or San Pedro..... It's a trip that you will not forget, and will be one of the highlights of your cruise.

Cruiselines don't offer this as an excursion.

Just email me if you want details.....

The best prices that I have found overall are from www.cruisequick.com.

HOWEVER they do not hold your hand. What I mean is that you need to know what cruise you want, what ship, date and category. You cannot call them, they do not answer a phone.

They are internet based only, completely legitimate, and offer a bonus or discount that most other agents don't offer.

They work on a flat fee profit and are completely automated.

    They do answer emails promptly.

Their site explains how they work. I have used them for years, without any problems. They offer free price quotes via email that include all port fees, taxes etc.

    Happy Cruising !

  6. In Cozumel, My husband and I never book an excursion. The taxis are cheap about $4 per trip not per person. The shopping is all in one area and easy to find. The best trip if you like snorkeling is Chakanaab National Park. You can just pay the daily admission fee. I think its $14 per person.  Belize is the opposite. It is a realtively new stop for cruises. People say its like the rest of the Caribbean was 25 years ago. The scenery is breathtaking. But I would always book an excursion for transportation reasons. We went cavetubing in the rain forest and it is still one of my favorite all time excursions. Some friends went snorkeling on Ambergris Cay and loved it. Both ports I'd go to anytime. You've chosen a great itinerary. Bon Voyage,

  7. not sure if that i 100% safe and effiective.  if you book with the ship, you are guaranteed to be brought back on the ship at the correct time, and have a safe trip.

if you go off on yor own,  well thats it, you on your own.

It is up to you, some people like just doing whatever they want, check out places etc..  others like to be on a tour or group and have a great time that way.  No way is better than the other, but it is what you like.

Ive been to both a few times, i never step foot in belize because from the cruise i went on a boat and went fishing,  but cozumel was great for shopping.

if you like shopping, prehaps not booking an excursion and just walking around at the shops is right for you.
