I wasn't brought up with the best of manners and i'm going out with a few, well let's just say 'better off' people in a couple of days to an amazingly posh [and expensive] restaurant.

Is there any advice you could give me? on how to act etc? Please help.

xx Thanks

  1. Usually I like to pre-cut up all or much of my food in small pieces before I eat it but I guess the -ahem- 'proper' way is to cut only a few small pieces or better yet just the one piece you eat at a time.  Be yourself and remember they are no better than you!

  2. don't drink, that will make sure you don't accidentally drink too much. stay away from politics and religion in conversation unless they bring it up. put your napkin on your lap.

  3. Relax, be yourself and listen to the conversation around you.  You can always join in when you feel comfortable.  As for table manners, the flatware goes in order from outside to in towards the plate.  The dessert flatware will either be at the top of the plate or will be presented when dessert and coffee are served.  If this is still confusing, take a sip of water while you watch what others do and then follow their lead.  Good luck and have fun.
