Question:

I am going running tonight!!?

I want to lose some weight and i think that running is the quikest way of getting rid of it! But how long would you say is good to run for??? I am so unhealthy and havent done any exercise for years!!

  1. Any exercise that you can do will encourage weight loss.  Don't go crazy and run 25 miles in 5 hours and never run again.  Just make small, permanent lifestyle changes and continue to do so.

    BTW, running won't do too much.  You actually don't burn many more calories than a can of soda, but the boost to your metabolism is great.  

    Do it, but don't expect to lost 5 lbs. by tomorrow.  2 lbs. a week is great, less is still good.  Just don't yo-yo.


  2. The big thing with running is to keep at it.  It takes me about two weeks to get into the rhythm of it after I have stopped for a while.

  3. just do as much as you can handle. Tonight was the first night I ran in a while, I haven't worked out for 4 months and I ran 2 miles! you can do it! just start small- i was huffing and puffing my way through the whole run but I felt great after I finished :)

  4. Just starting out I would only go about 1/2 a mile and see how it feels. If you could do more than that go for it. But don't do to much to fast to soon or you could run the chance of getting hurt. You don't even have to run every day. Try biking, elliptical, or swimming every now and again just to change things up and work different part of your body. Also if you can it is healthier to run on soft surfaces so if you can get to a track or a park do that. If you can't than keep this in mind. Concrete is harder than pavement so if you have to chose between one or the other run on pavement ;) a lot of people don't know that. They are still both really hard but one is better.
