  1. I'M CURRENTLY IN THE ARMY HERE DEPLOYED TO AFGHANISTAN.I BEEN IN FOR ABOUT 21 MONTHS NOW,THERES MANY PROS AND CONS EITHER WAY YOU LOOK AT IT.THE BENEFITS OF THE ARMY ARE GREAT,WE NOW HAVE A NEW $80,000 GI BILL TOWARDS COLLEGE,HEALTHCARE,THE MILITARY EXPERIENCE,PAY IS OKAY,FASTER IN RANKS THAN ANY OTHER BRANCH,HOUSING,FOOD,PAY IS OKAY,YOU'LL GET TO TRAVEL THE WORLD AND SEE DIFFERNENT PLACES AND COUNTRIES..CONS ARE YOU WILL SPEND A MAJORITY OF YOUR CAREER OVERSEAS BUT THAT ALSO DEPENDS ON YOUR MOS,YOU WILL SPEND A LARGE AMOUNT OF TIME SPENT AWAY FROM THE FAMILY EITHER DEPLOYED OR IN THE FIELD OR AT WORK,YOU'RE EXPECTED TO DEPLOY LESS THAN 3 MONTHS AFTER YOU FINISH AIT..BUT I THINK THE PROS DEFINITELY OUTWEIGH THE CONS,JUST MAKE SURE YOU THINK WISELY WHEN CHOOSING YOUR MOS(MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY)BECAUSE IF YOU HATE IT YOU'RE NOT GOING TO ENJOY YOUR TIME IN THE SERVICE AND YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO CHANGE IT UNTIL YOU COMPLETED 2 YEARS OF SERVICE OR REENLIST...

    GOOD LUCK,HOOAHHHH

  2. money for college, cash bonuses, respect etc. However, why not join the national guard or reserves, you get all the benefits but if you dont like it, its only one weekend a month, and if you do like it you can always activate yourself and go full time.

  3. You owe it to yourself to read this before you make any such decision.  Major General Smedley Butler is often referred to as the Old Man of the Marine Corps.  He knew a thing or two about the way that the world works.  You should, as well, before making such a commitment.

  4. Pros= You get to Serve your Country, while growing as a Citizen, and a Person.

Cons= You have to listen to idiots call you "murders", "bush's merc's" , "uneducated"... my favorite "invaders", and you have to listen to them degrade the Country you Protect through your Service... but, this actually can become a "Pro", when you realize they are selfish, and are "takers"... and that it is YOU who Protect the Freedoms to be like they are...

  5. Pros - Serving your Country.

Cons - they bribe you with this propaganda of money, college, bonuses when it is a pathetic excuse to join the military for those reasons.  The Army just don't realize that they are undermining the true American spirit of serving your country.  They make you believe that you should deserve something for it!

"It is not what the Country can do for you, it is what you can do for your Country"  quote by President Kennedy

Another Con, they ain't the Marines!

WRONG Hermes:  It IS Archibald Henderson that is the Grand Ole' Man of the Marine Corps, S.D. Butler was a Marine that earned two Congressional Medal of Honors.

Thumbs down?  Well excuse me....  I would rather p**s on that $20,000 bonus that they offer to people joining the Army!  I thought it was a worthless excuse to join in my opinion!

    Oorah! Libspray!  Well spoken...

  6. Cons:

    being away from family/friends

working long hours [depending on how you look at it]

stuck in a tricky contract if you later change your mind [to a degree]

    More rules than civillian life

Some jobs do not transfer well into civillian jobs

    Pros:

Job stability [as long as nothing goes wrong]

    A sense of Honor/Pride

    Service to your country

    Education benefits

    Health benefits

    Travel opportunities

    Specialized Training
