  1. Whenever you go on an international travelling. Please keep all currency in USD (US Dollars). Because if you need to convert USD into any local currency, that is very easy.

Its better you use travellers cheque instead of cash USD. Because in case of lost or theft you can claim your money.

For Thailand its good if you get some Thai Baht's (Thailands local currency)

100 Indian Rupees = 85 Thai Bahts Approximate

    Have a good journey

  2. Ask youself this question can you buy a milk with Thai Baht in India?

Thailand has one of the best places for converting money so do it in Thailand not India.

Moving it to USD is only good if you are going to be travelling the world in airports etc. since you would lose, since your effectiviely changing your money twice once from Ruppees and next from USD.

  3. You must convert to Thai currency.  However, converting currency is very easy.  You can do so at most banks.  There are many kiosks in Bangkok set up by banks with the sole purpose of converting currency.

Also, the better bet is to leave your money in the bank and withdraw from the ATM.  The fees are minimal, it is safer, and Thai ATMs only dispense Thai Baht.

    Good luck!

EDIT: I think you get a better exchange rate converting rupee to USD then USD to Thai baht (Thai banks typically undervalue Indian currency).

EDIT II: The Indian currency is a SOFT currency in Thailand.  You will get MORE Thai baht by converting to USD in India then to Baht in Thailand.

If you go to any bank's website, you will see that the Rupee has a buy price of something akin to .74 and a sell price of .83

Most foriegners do not know this because few who are in Thailand for any length of time have been in India long enough to know that Indian currency is considered to be a soft currency by Thai banks.

  4. Thailand currency is the Thai Baht.  You can exchange your Indian currency for Thai Baht here and getting a better rate then getting it in India.  The exchange rate for the rupee is 0.66.5000
