I am going to Florence, Italy in Sept. and have a question about neighborhoods

Someone told my boyfriend that there is a bad area (dangerous and slum-like) in Florence that should be avoided. Does anyone know where that may be (nearby landmarks, etc.) so I can plan to steer clear? I've never been to Italy before. Thanks for anything you can tell me.

  1. I just got back from italy about a month ago and your boyfriend is right. Yes there are places in Florence that aren't an ideal place to be, but it's hard to say where specifically. Once you get there you will probably go see all the tourist spots and common landmarks, right? just remember that it is never safe to travel alone in any unfamilar country... always stick with a friend and don't walk around outside too late... at least until you feel comfortable and get use to the surrounding area. After a couple of days you'll get a feel for where the safer places are.

    Hope that helps!
