  1. u will see lots of water!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Il Duomo (morning) plus the Uffizi gallery (afternoon). Pre-book your Uffizi tickets online to avoid the queues (see link). They are about 200 yards from each other, and you can sit in the Piazza dei Signorei for lunch and people watching.

    A fantastic city. Buon viaggare!

  3. Take me with you. I would give you an experience you would never forget

  4. on our trip in march we had one day for florence.  we went to the duomo and climbed all those stairs to the top, explored the boboli gardens, walked through the piazzas and took in the art and statues outside for free, and went through some of the open-air markets to find some goodies.  we also had our meals, lunch was pizza so we could keep walking, gelato, and strolled around the city in the evening and walked on the ponte vecchio.  looking back, i wish we had spent more time, but the day was well spent.  depending on the time of year you go, you shouldnt have too many lines.  i think we maybe waited 15 minutes, if even that, for the duomo.  we managed to do all of this in the afternoon since we got horribly lost in the outer edges of the city while driving.  :)  so you will see plenty!  just get a good map, and mark where you want to go, and move in a path instead of bouncing around the city and you will cover it all!  enjoy!

  5. i live here in florence, its a tiny town in comparison to rome, so from my personal point of view, you can see all of florence in one day that is without counting museums.

are you arriving by train or by plane? either way, if your arriving by plane, the bus you take from the airport will leave you right in front of the train station. so ill start from there.

get yourself a map first or email me and i can scan you one i have about all the streets in florence:

    1. from train station, turn left and go on Via Nazionale then turn right on Via dell'Ariento. its one of the ends of the San Lorenzo Market. you can see all the nice leather jacket carts, or famous scarfs, ecc...

    2. go all the way down until you hit Piazza San Lorenzo. you can visit the church if you like.

    3. then after visiting all the cool leather carts, turn right on Borgo S. Lorenzo. and right in front of you is going to be the huge cathedral, Il Duomo (Santa Maria del Fiore). go aroudn in circles, view the entire duomo, can go in and out.

    4. you can stop and pay to go to the top of the duomo to have an entire view of florence. itll take about 45 min. just doing that...its a long walk up the stairs to the top!

    5. after viewing that, continue ahead, infront of you there are two main streets that go parallel Via Roma and Via Calzaiuoli. those are the two main streets, and from those depart all the tiny beautiful little streets in florence. you can go aroudn in circles visiting all the cute stores ecc...

    6. if you take via roma (after visiting the nice piazza della republica) takes you the ponte vecchio and the ponte vecchio from there takes you to palazzo pitti. note* after palazzo pitti, turn back there is nothing nice after that to see, so dont waste your time from. can visit palazzo pitti but itll waste some of your time to see all of florence. when heading back from palazzo pitti, turn left and visit Santo Spiritu. in your map youll see close by the church of santa maria del carmine. skip that one! just trust me...not that big of a thing to see...trust me. even the piazza is nothing but an ugly parking lot there.

so then after santo spiritu, return half way to palazzo pitti and take the street called Via di Maggio. itll take you to another bridge parallel to ponte vecchio. can take a nice foto from there and cross the bridge. the street then turns to Via Tournabuoni. that street is famous for all of its top designer clothes stores...all of them are all lined up along that street. cool thing to visit.

    7. if you take via calzaiuoli you will go directly to Piazza della Signoria, the Uffizi, and the Palazzo Vecchio. after seeing it all, go towards your right, take any street and head to Piazza Santa Croce. visit the nice church and your practically done.

    8. you can go back to the Duomo and go the opposite direction to visit Piazza Santissima Annunziata where there was once an orphanage way back back then.  if your desperate to visit the original david, its located in teh Academia which is on the way there.

    9. you can go visit the piazza michealangelo. but its way off and its up on a hill, so you either take a 45 min. walk up or take the bus, which im not familiar which one is that takes you there. close by to it is the San Miniato church. i personally dont like that piazza, the church is nice, but the piazza which is actually an ugly parking lot,, serves nothing more than just a view of florence.

depends, if your into nice views, then thats the spot, if not, then skip it.

    10. if you have extra time, go back to the train station and catch a bus to Fiesole. a real nice town on the top of a hill that gives you a real nice view of the entire florence. that little town is more valuable to going and seeing a nice view than from some ugly lame parking lot on a dirty hill.

    11. on the map youll see the big Fortezza da Basso, next door to the trian station, dont waste your time going there, its only open for exhibitions or performances or shows, other than that is closed.

if you need anymore details feel free to ask!

  6. One of the other respondents mentioned the statue of David (MichelAngelo) - there are several versions in Florence, the original is in The Accademia.

You do not need to queue for The Uffizi Gallery - you can pre-book a timed slot.

Assuming you like art, both of the above are highly recommended.

I agree with a previous poster that walking across the Ponte Vecchio is good. Walking almost anywhere in Florence is a pleasure but that is one of the best. Note the Vasari Corridor that runs in parallel, from The Uffizi to The Pitti Palace.

Above all else - EAT! Delicious food is available within every price range. From humble (but delectable) pizza to whatever you can imagine.

Shopping opportunities abound too. You like Gucci? (You have large budget???) or you like (flea) markets, hunting for a bargain? All can be had in florence.

One day is obviously not enough. Take this as an experimental visit, expect to come back and don't try to do too much and spoil it by exhausting yourself and trying to do too much.

HAVE FUN - even if it means drinking espresso in a coffee bar and meeting some locals. The coffee will be good and who knows.....!

  7. Florence is a good place to visit. Try and see the place and take photos. buy leather bags shoes and jackets.

  8. ONE day in Firenze...oh my...well, you don't want to spend your day in lines, so best to just walk the streets, the bridges, eat gelato, and take in the vibe of the city. Definitely go to the piazzas and if possilbe to the Academia to see DAVID at day's end when the crowds will have dissapated.

  9. walk across the ponte vecho bridge go see the statue of DAVID buy some leather in the street market

  10. If you want an unforgettable day in Florence, fall into conversation with a perfect stranger, and have lunch together. If you do just that and nothing else, you will enjoy yourself and have memories to last you a lifetime. Florence is all about relaxing and enjoying yourself with someone else.    -  Chris.

  11. Rome wasn`t built in a day & Florence is no exception to the rule either of these places are built so people appreciate the sheer beauty of the outstanding work, for you to spend just one day is going to be difficult to really enjoy the sights so, for a whistle stop tour book an early coach, see what they offer then, no doubt you will be wanting refreshment?then some nightlife well dream on you just cannot do all in ONE DAY so book a week & give your body a break as well!Whatever Enjoy.

  12. Duomo-Baptistery-Palazzo Vecchio-Ponte Vecchio-Santa Croce-Piazzale Michelangelo-Bellosguardo.

This journey you can do it walking..all day, and watch the best of Florence free.

I dont remember if Santa Croce give you a ticket.

    enjoy it!

  13. Florence is a very popular tourist destination. All the attractions have really long queues. You can't DO Florence in one day. Stick to the streets and bridges.

  14. The best way to see a city on a " flying visit " is to go on the biggest organised sight-seeing-tour ,They are expensive but at least you get an overall view of a place .When you go back sometime you can than pick the things that will interest you ,

    have a good time !
