  2. For an impression what to see in Frankfurt take the "Virtual city tour" on the official web site

    http://www.frankfurt.de/sixcms/detail.ph...

If possible arrive before Christmas Eve to enjoy the christmas market - it will be worth it! On New Year's Eve go to the southern bank of Main river: better view for fireworks over Frankfurt sky line - and don't forget glasses and champagne ;-)

Outside Frankfurt (50 miles to the south): daytrip to Heidelberg to see the famous Heidelberg Castle ( http://www.cvb-heidelberg.de/e553/index_... )

What else to expect: a lot of german speaking people (most know at least some english), the Zeil (a pedestrian area with many shops), a huge variety of restaurants (all types of german food and international cuisine), ...

  4. I did not think there were any more GI's stationed in Frankfurt? Anyway, there is lots to do. If you get there before the 25th you can visit the Frankfurt Christmas Market(Don't be surprized when you hear Bing Crosby singing 'White Christmas') to have a 'Gluewein' - a hot spiced red wine, very good! On New Year's Eve there will be fireworks - A good place to enjoy the 'Show' is on the banks of the Main River in Frankfurt, bring a bottle of champagne to really enjoy the party atmosphere. In Frankfurt you can walk around the 'Zeil' - that is a walking plaza thru the city center of Frankfurt. You can check out the old churches, the Roemer Platz where city hall is located, touristy but still something to see.

Practical info; Bring warm clothes and comfortable walking shoes! Frankfurt is a business city so many places take credit cards(Mastercard&Visa your best bets).

Good Luck and have A Wonderful Visit and a Great Holiday Season! P.S. Planning on having children dear?
