  1. yes

  2. Well if you're in Britain then we have the same plugs in Ireland

  3. yes, you need an adapter.  They use the socket that look like two round pins.

  4. For power, yes, just use a plug adaptor.

However, you also need to consider your communications. If you intend to access the Internet while in Ireland, you will need to consider how you will do this. There is the question of technology: will you use a dial-up modem or broadband or cable or wireless, etc? And a question of supplier: who will be your ISP (Internet Service Provider)?

Obviously if you are travelling to study or work in an office, they will already have communications in place at the college or office, but if you intend to use the laptop at home, you will need to sort out a private arrangement as well for wherever you are staying.

If you are travelling around, some accommodation providers (from hotels to hostels) do provide Internet access; some don't. Sometimes it is included in the cost; sometimes it is an extra (and quite expensive) cost. Some places provide it wired (i.e. sockets in individuals rooms) but other places provide it wirelessly (so your laptop needs to have wireless communications, either built-in or via a card you plug-in through your PCMCIA slot or similar).

A lot of accommodation for tourists in Ireland is Bed-n-Breakfast and Internet access to the visitor room isn't going to be the norm, but the homeowners are usually very obliging and if they have internet access in their home, they may well invite you into another part of their home to use it.

Internet cafes and local libraries are also place you can connect to the Internet while travelling.

  5. Yes, but not all power supplies are as stable as what you are used to. I would recommend also using a small anti-surge device on your supply. You can pick them up cheaply and simply fit between the mains lead and your power supply. Some also have a telephone connection protection too.

  6. same plug sockets

  7. In Ireland our plugs are 3 square pins!!
