You MUST have a passport to Fly to and from Mexico...been that way for over a year now. You do NOT need a passport to travel to and from Mexico by LAND...just a photo I.D. and birth certificate.  See site below and read top half of page carefully for the CURRENT info.  Date for requirement for passport for LAND travel has not yet been set.  New passport cards for LAND travelonly can be applied for now and will be avail. in the spring for use when the new requirement goes into effect.

You will need a passport to leave the United States and you will need your passport to return to the United States.

I read somewere that you now need a passport to go to Mexico and I think that it also said to Canada. The way things are going one day we are going to need a passprot to cross state lines. I also heard that Home land Security want the government to issue a federal driver license to all U.S. drivers. Just a way to make more money.
