I am going to Peru, so what should I do? *pun intended*?

was that even a pun? I really can't say. Anyways, people are telling me it'll be cold (I'm going there june/july) so how should I pack? I live at, if not below, sea level. My body will probably throw a temper tantrum in the misty mountains. :/ How should I prepare my immune system and all that for the conditions I'm going to face? I probably won't have any access to electricity or hot water. There is a high chance that I will be sleeping on the floor too. Thanks :)

  1. Try going to the beaches up north.

  2. Your doings will depend on what your likenings are. You like nature? going out to bars? history? Adventure sports? Peru offers so many options... but the traditional tourist will do Lima and Cusco-Machu Picchu (maybe add Arequipa-Puno or Nazca Lines-Paracas or the Amazon Rainforest)

Despite july being winter time, weather can vary dramatically from region to region, the coast is a desert with very hot parts (Piura, Nazca, Paracas) and very cold and humid parts (like Lima) at that time of the year. The Andes (Cusco, Arequipa, Puno) are cold and dry but the when sun is out, it warms up everything so you'll need something light aswell. The Amazon rainforest is allways hot.

About accomodations, unless you go backpacking the Indiana Jones´ way, you should find decent places to sleep everywhere.

Lima, Nazca, Paracas and the rainforests are at sea level, the Andes however are very high and your body should need a day or to to get used to thin air... I live at sea level too and every time I've been to Cusco I've had a massive migraine that made me swear I'll never return of course once adapted to thin air, you totally forget the previous night!

PS the Peruvian Tourist info`s moto is "Pack your 6 senses" maybe that will answer one of your questions!

  3. First of all, you need to speciffy where in Peru are you going, and what does  PUN   mean , if you mean the city of puno, well yes puno is cold even in summer time (june july)so pack warm gear, what exatly you plan to do over there im curious, I live in Lima myself, take chapstick for dry lips and a med kit just in case. good luck

  4. there is nothing you can do about the lack of airpressure on your internal organs that you are use to. I would say 5/6 feel some type of sickness.
