I was there 20 years and it was peaceful and beautiful. How much has changed? What things should I be aware of? I want to stay at Maho Bay campground and use a rented jeep to get around. Is that a good idea? And what about communications.... internet, cell phone access?

  1. St John is a modern up-to-date island. It has everything you need to enjoy a wonderful vacation.

Cruz Bay is very built up and has more stores, restaurants and crowds. Coral Bay is the laid back side but getting a little more busy.

You have more lodging all over the island where it's not National Park.

I don't know where you heard St John was too dangerous. They do have their share of crime like the rest of USA.

Just be careful with leaving any valuables in your jeep. There have been reports of break-ins of cars at some beaches.

Just follow the same precautions you do at home and you will be very safe.

    Have a great time)
