I have traveled through Asia and have been through Europe. I DON'T want to do Italy/France/Spain/Germany/UK, so they are out. If you have traveled to Morocco, what did you think? Was it easy/safe to get around? Were there things you did NOT like about the country? I would like the opinions of any other traveler/backpackers about places to go while in either Portugal or Morocco. OR if you have been and also have other recommendations, I'm totally up for those too. Maybe Eastern Europe/Greece would be options, instead. Points of consideration: interesting, beautiful things to experience and photograph, good food, overall relaxing/fun 7-10 day trip. The more info, the better. I have read the other posts about how the men heckle the women. How bad is it? Is it unsafe?

  1. I lived in Spain in 1991 so I hope this information is not too outdated. My family & I traveled to Morocco twice. We visited Agadir, Marrakech, Rabat, and Tangier. It was gorgeous but extremely hot. We rented a car for transportation (it overheated!). My mother was driving the car and when we got pulled over, the man asked why a woman was driving. That was a little uncomfortable. Other than that, the people were very friendly and the food was great. Again this was in 1991 so things might be different now.

I would go to the Greek Islands. There is not much to see in Athens, it is a bit of a disappointment. Crete and the Cyclades islands are absolutely gorgeous. It is very inexpensive, always sunny, tons to see & do, and the food is unbelievable!
