Question:

I am going to a volleyball camp. Any tips?

I am gonna like go to like a like volleyball camp. It's like three hours. that must be like long. But I like don't even like know how to like play volleyball. Does anyone like have any tips for me, I mean I'm like absouloutely clueless. All I know is like what a spike is. Barely. So please tell me like anything you like know because like I don't like want to like be the clueless idiot out of like the people. It's for intermediate and beginners, and the intermediates will probably think I'm an idiot. HELP! Volleyball like sounds fun but like I don't know like where to get info on how to play so please help. The most like informative like answer gets like the ten points. thanks!

  1. Don't worry too much about the skill level.  Most likely, the camp administrator will break up into skill groups.  That is the most logical answer.  Therefore, you won't be worried about being on the court with someone who is "way better".  As far as learning the basics, again, like other answers.  That's what you're there for.  Just know that there is no way you will learn the whole game of Volleyball in three hours.  Take whatever information you can.  Walk in that door and pay attention and soak up all the good info.


  2. I have been to volleyball camps millions of times and all you need to do is try your best, focus, listen to your coach, and leave Friends till after camp.BeSt oF LuCk!

  3. The only thing you can do is look up rules and terminology(spike is used by 7th grade volleyball players...kill or attack is the correct word(s)). If you don't want to look like a fool...act like you know what you are doing...

    You may also want to stop  using like...you may sound like a cheerleader(nothing personal). If you go...you are there to learn...so just learn...son't be cocky...GOOD LUCK

  4. listen to your coach and what they say.....they know what they are talking about......just work hard and listen you might be able to make your school team when you get back

  6. stop saying like soo much, you might be picked for the team.

    but, if you do everything great that they tell you to do,if you run, try not to stop. this shows the coach that you have energy, and you really want to be on that team. but if you  do every thig half way, then you won't be picked,

  7. Some camp tips... bring a lot more T-shirts than you think you need.  Bring a water bottle. Bring a rain jacket, and some sandles.

  8. just play close attention and have an open mind. learn from others. and dont be afraid to ask questions . most likely there will be a person out there a confused as you are.

  9. Start just playing around with a ball. You can begin to toughen up your forearms (inside of your arms) by bouncing and ball (volleyball, soccer ball, basketball) on them. They will be red for a bit, but they will get less sore as you go. There are a lot of websites that can give you drills or check out some books from the library. The best advice I can give you is to run... because volleyball takes a lot of running and try your hardest. When you start camp, start with a positive outlook and I am sure that you will have a great time and learn a lot!

  10. Is the volleyball camp a beginner camp? If so, you will learn everything you need to know. But if it's not then you should definitely take these tips...

    *Pass/Bump: This is where you "pass" the ball to the setter...how you do this is you make a fist with whatever hand you write with, then wrap the other hand around that hand. Make sure you have a steady base...your thumbs should be pointed to the floor. When the ball comes to you, it should hit your forearm (a little above your wrist) Make sure your arm is strong and stead y and facing the right way. Also make sure your feet are in the right position. Your feet should be about shoulder width apart and your knees should be bent! Make sure your butt is sticking out...embarrasing, yes but it works...trust me! If you are a rightie, your right foot should be a little in front of your left, and the opposite if you are a leftie. (Im sorry if this doesn't make any sense...its hard to explain on the computer)

    *Set: This is where you pass it (only in a different form) to the spiker. To do this you put both your hands out in front of you. Your palms should be facing the floor. Spread apart your fingers and kinda curve them, but barely, almost like you are holding a ROUND ball. Got it? Ok...Now tilt your hands so your pointer fingers are touching eachother. It should look like a triangle in between your thumbs and pointers. Now spread your fingers about half an inch apart and put your hands above your forehead...about an inch or two away from it. When the passer passes to you, make a Left Right motion with your legs. That means you barely jump into the air and put your left foot down and then your right (the opp. if you are a leftie) get under the ball and once it touches your hands push it into the air toward the spiker. (This will probably make more sense when explained at the camp)

    *SPIKIN': YAY! This is probably one of the most difficult (and fun!) skills for beginners...but don't worry you will get the hang of it. There are many things to remember when spiking...but first of all you should kno the footwork. Different coaches teach it diff. ways...but do not worry if the coach tells you something diff. then what I am about to tell you...GO WITH THE COACH...This is the foot work.

    1.Start at the ten ft. line

    2.When the setter sets the ball to you JUST STAY STILL DO NOT GO EARLY!!!

    3.When the ball reaches its HIGHEST POINT start your foot work: Left (big step) Right (medium step) Left (small step) in the end your right foot should be a little bit more foreward than the left foot. (***do the opposite...right left right...if you r a leftie)

    4.Ok...now for the arm motions...

    A1.JUMP!

    A2.left arm out in front of your face with your right arm ready, like a bow and arrow...

    A3.left arm comes down and right arm swings and the ball.

    A4.Snap your wrist when you touch the ball.

    Do the OPPOSITE IF YOU ARE A LEFTIE!~

    *Serving: I lied...THIS IS THE HARDEST! You might do under or over hand serving...i prefer overhand but its your choice...Most of the time underhand is best for beginners. I am not going to write about how to do both but you will definetly learn it there.

  11. You'll learn how to do all of this, but bring along some lotion. Your forearms will get sore and red from having the ball land on them.

  12. You learn that stuff at camp but bring short shorts or soccer shots and knee pads. Don’t wear plain shoes but basketball shoes track/ running shoes or even skateboarding shoes will help your feet.

    1.a bump is when you kneel down and hit the ball up to the setter.  When you hit the ball you should the ball anywhere from your wrist to the middle of your forearm. Make a fist with one hand and take the other hand and cover the sides. Then place the thumbs forward. Don’t cross them. If the ball hits your hand then you can brake your thumbs when their crossed.

    2.After a bump usually the setter comes up and sets the ball if and when you set you go underneath the ball and cradle the ball in your hands and push the ball back out. But if you can hear yourself catching the ball then the other team gets the ball and a point. So you want to go fast.

    3.When you spike you call for the ball so the setter knows where to set the ball. You start on the 10 foot line and you take 3 steps. If your right handed then you start with your right foot back so your first step is with your right foot. When you go you step ( 1.. 2,3) right foot forward them left foot in front and right foot forward. So when you take your 3rd step your still facing foreword. When you jump you jump with you calves and spring up then swing your arm all the way around and when you hit the ball snap your wrist so it goes down. Make sure that when you go down your facing the side so you don’t hit the net

  15. You are going to look like a total idiot out there and three hours is absolutly nothing.  I go to camps that are hours away from home where you stay overnight for like 4days and everyday exept for stopping for lunch and dinner you play volleyball from 8a.m. until 9p.m.
