  1. go for Sydney. GORGEOUS

  2. Come to Melbourne, the second most liveable city in the world. Lots going on. Art, Culture, Theatre.Gigs etc. Lots of eating places, great food - and hidden bars for a great nightlife. Take a tour down the Great Ocean Rd, Visit Sovereign Hill, go to the beach at St Kilda.

Visit Dracula's for a hair raising experience. Go Kayaking, ballooning, cycling, swimming.

Its a great place lots more going on - hope this has whetted your appetite.

  3. Try Brisbane, their winter weather is nice, it's the most northerly of the major capitals.  Surfer's Paradise is close, you've also got options further up the coast: Noosa, Gladstone etc, or even all the way up to Townsville.

  4. You definately have to visit MELBOURNE  (Victoria) !!!

The following is a must see and do list of all the things Melbourne, and the broader state of Victoria has to offer (well the majority of things to do)

    Federation Square http://www.fedsquare.com

You also gotta go to Phillip Island and check out the Penguin Parade. While in Phillip Island go to Amaze 'n' Things http://www.amazenthings.com.au/

If you are hanging out to do some shopping whilst in Melbourne, not only can you find some bargains at the Queen Victoria Market, but DFO have heaps of designer brands at bargain prices, so you gotta check that out too. http://www.dfo.com.au

Don't forget to go down to Lygon Street for a bite to eat (there are heaps of Italian restaurants and there is an ice cream shop there (sorry I forgot the name of it) where they sell the best ice cream in Melbourne)

If cakes and pastries are more to your liking, then a definate place you gotta check out is Acland Street in St Kilda. This is a street filled with the best cakes and pastries in Melbourne.

Chinatown is also a place you should check out if you are into Chinese cuisine. Not only this, but you can also go to the Chinese museum, and participate in a Chinatown heritage walk http://www.chinatownmelbourne.com.au/

Enjoy your stay in Melbourne and have lots of fun!!!!

  5. Your Sunmmer or our summer?

You said largest so that would have to be Sydney around over 4 million people.  EAST COAST of sydney, home and away tours, the Bridge walk, cafes, beach, topless beaches, clubs shopping you name it and the north side Manly is lovely too.  Great summers in Sydney. I love Boni Beach and Manly the best.

  6. If you want an adventure I would suggest Cairns its a pretty big city and there is plenty to do.  Like go Scuba diving on the great barrier reef or a tour through the Daintree Rainforest there are plenty of things around there to do.

  7. If you mean in the northern hemisphere summer it will be our winter, stay in Cairns if you are staying for a few weeks or less, or Brisbane or Sydney if you are staying for a few months.

If you mean in our summer and you are only going to stay in one city I would pick Sydney.

  8. You should go more toward the equator, like Brisbane, if you want it to be warmer  there.  I hear a lot of people like it there- plus you have the Gold Coast and Great Barrier Reef right there together.

But if you're just going there to go there- then go to Sydney.  I've heard from MANY people it is a BEAUTIFUL city and everyone of them LOVED it there.  I've never been there but I've done a lot of research.

If Sydney is out of the picture, then go for Melbourne.  I heard it is very nice there and very clean.

For something new- go to Alice Springs for me!  (laugh out loud)  No, it's in the center of the whole continent- but you actually could go see Ayers Rock (Uluru in the Aborigines' language) if you went there, as it's just a few miles from it.

That's my tip!  I hope this helps!  Have fun for me!  (Laugh out loud)

  9. Somewhere north otherwise you'll miss summer completely.

    Your summer is our winter.

In winter, here, I'd choose Cairns, Townsville or maybe even Darwin.

Just to clear up a couple of things that were in another answer.

The distance from Alice Springs to Uluru (Ayers Rock) is approx 440kms (270 miles). The Rock is not just out of town.

Also, the Gold Coast and the Great Barrier Reef are not together.

The Gold Coast is approx 70kms (40 miles) south of the centre of Brisbane.

It's very easy to get there from Brisbane.

The tourist areas of the Great Barrier Reef are not close to Brisbane. Most Great Barrier Reef tour operators work out of North Queensland approx 1000kms (600 miles) north of Brisbane.

    I hope this helps you.

  10. There are basically three rough holiday choices depending on your interests.

    1. Tourist Australia - Visit Queensland, Sydney, Melbourne. September - October is a nice time, I suggest starting at QLD and working your way down as Melbourne will be nicer closer to summer. You should allow 4-6weeks to get a decent experience.

    2. Outback Australia - Darwin, Alice Springs. Weather is these places is incredible warm, I suggest June as even at the coldest the temps are still in the 30s. Again 4 weeks would make a decent time frame. Outback Australia will definitly give you a difference experience.

    3. Extended Australia or Real Australia - Western Australia, Adelaide, Tasmania, see how Australians live without the touristy aspect. Real Australians in real towns. Perhaps a week to 10days in each. You could add this to the other trips if you like.

Or if you have the finances and time, spend 3 months and do the lot!
