  1. Try doing push-ups and handstand push-ups for arm, shoulder, and back strength, squats and lunges for leg strength, and crunches for stomach strength to help keep your back safe while stunting.

You can find more exercises here: http://aescougarcheer.com/Cheer101/exerc...

  2. my varsity coach tells us to do at least 30 push ups a day.

and practice the motions of stunting at home.

    and practice timing to!

varsity.com is a good one or just google:cheerleading!

  3. As a fellow cheerleader and part-time base (I'm mostly a back), I know the importance of being strong for it. The thing about being a base is that you have to be strong all over: in your legs to support yourself as you are holding a flyer up, in your arms to push up to extensions, and in your core to keep yourself steady. I suggest full body workouts to keep yourself in shape all over. Running, doing push-ups and crunches, and doing plies (ballet move) help, too. As for your wrists, my team uses pre-wrap and athletic tape to keep them from giving out.

And don't forget to be ready to dive to save your flyer. Since this is your first year, chances are you'll drop her at some point. Hitting the ground, she'll be hurt A LOT worse than you will getting a bump on the head.

    Hope it helped!

  4. Hi, im a cheerleader also! But i am the flyer. the bases are JUST as important as the flyer. As a base, your legs must be strong to the hold the flyer suspended in the air. it hurts your legs after a while! Also bases must have confidence in catching the flyer. Dont be afraid to let the flyer land on you! And keep your back striaght! thats also important! I dont know any workouts for you but i would suggest asking your cheerleading coach.

Good Luck! I love cheerleading! You'll learn to love it too!
