My sister is having a baby and wants me to be godmother. I am thrilled. Their is one problem, I don't know what I would like the child to call me. Nanny is a really popular title that is used where I live and I would like something different. Any ideas are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  1. well since it is your sister why not just have the child call you aunt whatever your name is.

  2. I would think "Aunt" is appropriate because that's what you are.

  3. Well I've always just called my Godparents by their first names.  Since you will be both aunt and godmother could the child just call you Auntie (your first name?)

  4. that depends on what religion the baby is being baptized in

when I preform baptisms for pagans we use goddess mother, many non denominational people use Aunt as a title

  5. In our family & mostly in my area (Los Angeles, CA) we use "Nina"  I thought that was pretty common- guess not, but "Nina Bri"  sounds nice  =)  Or, use your whole name.

  6. how bout jus auntie

  7. Why not just use Auntie?

  8. I'm not sure of any, but you will want it to be something that will be easy for a child to say.

  9. This is your sister so most likely the baby will call you AUNT (your first name)

My kids God parents are their aunt and uncle but they still call them Aunt & Uncle like their other aunt & uncles.

Growing up I called my godparents aunt & uncle since they were my aunt & uncle.

Honestly Nanny reminds me of Nana. We live in the South and Nana is more of a name for a grandmother.

I grew up in the south & also the north USA and never heard of a special name for Godparents UNLESS they were not an immediate part of the family.

For example - A friend of mine had a god mother who was her mom's best friend so she called her Aunt (first name).

I had some friends in school who'd call their god mother's AUNTIE even if they were not a real aunt.

As your niece grows older she may give you a special name like a nickname or something. That will make it more special her giving it to you.
