  1. A lot of what makes a good setter is a soft touch, quick feet & confidence. The way to do that is what the others have told you, set the ball a bunch. Also work on your foot speed-Sprints, stairs,... anything. When you take the court to set, go with your instinct and don't doubt yourself. The worst enemy is changing your mind about where you are sending the ball at the last second. Girls also make the mistake of believing that you have to always set your friends or they won't be your friends anymore. Find your hot hands & if you don't know ask your coach.

    Good Luck!

  2. You should look at other threads and you will find a ton of information that will help you .  finger push ups will build some serious strength in your fingers.....try them out....use a VB and set into a basketball hoop this will help with feel, touch, distance control. I would set 100 balls a day into a hoop. It didnt have to go in the hoop but it did have to at least touch it. You also want to work on foot work.....this will help in getting to the ball on a bad pass. Hope this helps

  3. setters are usually determined by your height. so if your on the short side  then your more likely to be a setter.

    finger push ups.

    and practice practice practice!

    start working on your vollies.

but also practice your spikes, serves and bumps.

    you might become a hitter

  4. My coach told me to set 1000 balls a day. Just sit on your bed and set the ball in the air for a while. You'll get soft hands, and get used to the feeling of the ball.

  5. To get really good sets you have to have "soft hands"... this means your hands should be really flexible and be able to gently set the ball with great ease. To get softer hands and better sets, get a volleyball, stand about two feet away from a wall, and do quick little sets off the wall.... kind of like you are dribbling the ball or bouncing it.  Also you can lay on your back on the ground and do nice little sets above your head, do about 50 of these a day, it will build up your arm strength.  There are special volleyballs called "setter balls". They way about 5 pounds and you are supposed to practice setting them to make you stronger and increase th height of your set, maybe you can try to buy one of these (they really help!!)

    Okay for the actual set---

Make sure your right foot is always out in front of you. Put your hands a little above your forhead. Have your fingers spread far apart and cup the ball in your hands. Push with your arms AND legs to set the ball up. Try to make the set really smooth and avoid having the ball roll of your finger tips.

    Setting to the diffferent positions---

Power side: These sets have to be far out and high.

Middle: These are short and quick little sets.

Off side (back set): Back sets can be a little tricky to learn but once you got it down good they will be perfect! Take the ball more above your head rather than in front of your far head. Use your legs to push back, make sure they are kind of high. (Off-side hitters hate having the ball too low, its hard to get there in time.)

Phew!! That took a while to type! I hope I helped ya out there! Hopefully now you can become a better setter! =)
