  1. Location of wedding and reception

    Guest list

    People in the wedding

    Color scheme

    Budget

    Wedding dress

    Honeymoon location

    Catering

    Marriage License

    Social security office

    Counseling

and much much more. Remember when you start to stress out (and you will), that so many people spend years waiting for that special someone, and you my dear got one. Marriage is a blessing. I wish you and yours well. Congratulations.

  2. I haven't been too impressed with theknot.com, despite all the buzz.  (I find that they provide more e-mail spam than useful information.)  I have used the Wedding Channel for a few things, although I think by and large the most helpful thing has been simply paging through wedding magazines and planning books.  (I went to my local library and checked out an armful of wedding planning books when I started planning my wedding because I was pretty clueless, too!)

I know that trying to get my fiance acquainted with the details was a bit of a hassle, but I introduced him to the planning process by watching a few movies with him (My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Father of the Bride, etc).

You have plenty of time to plan your wedding, so try not to get overwhelmed with details too early in the game.  Take your time and enjoy the process!!

Congratulations on the engagement ~ Happy Planning!

  3. There are a bunch of websites and it can get overwhelming, my suggestions is to sit down with your husband to be and just brainstrom and jot down what you have in mind on just what you think you wedding should look like.  After making this list you can start to reach for the type of help you may need.  As a wedding coordinator I usually have my bride and groom start with a guest list.  This will determine the size of the venue, the food cost, the style of the wedding and so on.  Choose your wedding party and have them help.

  4. weddingwire.com

    better then the knot!

    i think!

  5. Theknot.com

This is the perfect website. It has a wedding budget program and then it also has a time line that tells you when you should get stuff done by.

    Hope this helps!

    Congrats!!

  6. Weird. I haven't gotten any spam since I joined theknot.com. I like theknot's guest book manager, but I find the budgeting tool on brides.com better.

  7. As others have said theknot.com brides.com and I like weddingwire.com.  I also made a spreadsheet to help track my expenses and everything I needed to purchase.  I made another one to track all my invitations and RSVPs.  It helped reduce my stress by quite a bit.

  8. don't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    just kidding

  9. Brides.com for dresses: They have a database full of dresses shown in their magazinez. Browse through it and start figuring out what kind of dresses you like (ie strapless, halter, ballgown, a-line...)

Then go to bridal stores, preferably with pics of dresses you like, or at least descriptions, and try them on. Let them choose some for you to try on, even if you don't like it on the pic, or on the hanger. They look totally different on person.

Pick the ceremony and reception sites, ASAP!!!! You'll need to reserve this, and be warned, some places are booked 2-3 years ahead of time. You'll have to figure out what kind of wedding you'd like to have (church/chapel, beach, garden, hall...)

and how many guests you plan to have.

But before you do ANY of that, you gotta figure out what kind of BUDGET you can afford and should stick with....

I found a book at Border's called "Planning the Most Memorable Wedding on Any Budget" and it helped me figure out what a "normal" wedding would cost, what my "dream" wedding would cost, and what I could actually afford, and what to spend on what to actually stay within my budget. It actually broke everything down into percentages of the budget, so I knew how much I was looking to spen on flowers, and where I could cut corners to afford the photographer and dress I wanted.

    It's a pretty handy tool.

Good Luck, hun, and most importantly, have FUN!
