Since I only have a week I am likely to spend at least one day in the city so I will not have a lot of time to travel in the Mekong Delta. What are the best towns/pagodas/beaches to vist in such a short space of time, and what is the transport like there?

  1. Of course, it depends of the free time you can spend for traveling.

Do not miss the Cu Chi tunnels and Cao Dai temple. You can do this tour in one day.

Mui Ne is a nice alternative if you want to go to the beach. Its 4 hours away from Ho Chi Minh City.

There's also the visit to the Mekong Delta islands area, which might be interesting also.

Any travel agency from Pham Ngu Lao ,aka backpachers area, will take you there for a very decent price.

    Finally, I highly recommend you a visit to the War Museum, in the city. Enjoy;

  2. HCM City is not really a nice place compare to Hanoi to travel, because it's less cultural. However, about the beach, Nha Trang is very near to HCMC and it's a really nice beach I recommend you to go there.

  3. Vung Tau, Dalat, My Tho, Can Tho, Cu Chi Tunnel and Pho Quoc Island!!!

  4. There is so much to do, just getting around  in of itself is a fun adventure with all of the motorscooters everywhere. I did a day trip to the Mekong Delta, it was very affordable and left from Ho Chi Minh, was one of my favorite parts. You can easily plan short trips from the travel agencies while you are there. I did not do the beach thing so you will have to figure that out. It is really fun to shop in the city with all of the markets and bartering, Vietnam was my favorite place to buy gifts for my friends back home.

Enjoy your trip, and remember that everything is negotiable in Vietnam, so don't settle for the first price.

  5. Im goning to Vietnam (saigon) too in june!! Well theres really nothing to see there all you could do is appreciate the fresh fruits and the beaches there.  You should rent a driver and ask him to drive you to Da nhang Man there is a Lot of beautiful sights there

  6. I just came back from holidays there. We did few  short distance trip with bus/cars based from HCM city.

    Here's what we did.

    - Mekong Delta trip (day trip). Not with a tour operator, we hired a car with driver and had a guide + boat for our selves. (=30$ for a boat + guide, excl transport to the habour)

    - Cat tien national park. One night stay over with trekking, night safari and biking. Nice to be in nature and in quiet area

    - Cooking class, vietnamese food.

    - China town (Q5)

    Have fun!

  7. i wouldn't suggest the Cu Chi tunnels they are muddy inside and aren't really that interesting other than that you get to imagine what it would be like to live in a tunnel for years on end. You should probably hire one of those guys' who run around on thier scooters for a tour. They are usually local and know where everything is.

  8. strip joint..
